At Royal Devon Private Healthcare, we welcome patients who wish to use their private medical insurance (PMI) to access high-quality treatment in our NHS hospitals. Whether you are coming to us for surgery, diagnostics, or specialist care, our team is here to guide you through the process and ensure your insurance covers your treatment.
Using Private Medical Insurance With Us
We work with all major insurers – although we are not part of specific insurer networks, our hospitals accept patients covered by leading private medical insurance companies.
Check your policy carefully – it is the patient’s responsibility to ensure their insurance covers treatment at our facilities.
Insurer as third party – while your insurer may pay invoices directly, any outstanding balance remains the patient’s liability.
Consultant Fees and Shortfalls
Our consultants are self-employed practitioners with practicing privileges at our hospitals. Fees may be billed separately:
Please confirm with your insurer if they cover the consultant’s fees in full.
Some insurers may only pay a portion, which could result in a shortfall you will need to settle.
We may collect consultant fees on their behalf, acting as their agent.
Pre-Authorisation Requirements
Before your admission, insured patients must provide:
A pre-authorisation number or claim number from their insurer confirming cover for treatment at our facility.
Without this, we cannot proceed with treatment under insurance.
