What's included

One-to-one consultation

You’ll meet a consultant ENT surgeon to review your symptoms, medical history, and any previous scans or test results. Your consultant will explain the septoplasty procedure, answer questions, and create a personalised treatment plan.

Pre-operative assessment

Before surgery you’ll attend a pre-operative assessment where your health history is reviewed and any necessary tests. These may include a nasal endoscopy or imaging. You will also meet the anaesthetic team to ensure you’re fully prepared.

Procedure

Septoplasty is performed under general anaesthetic. Your surgeon straightens or repositions the cartilage and bone of the nasal septum through the nostrils (no external cuts are required) to improve airflow. The operation usually takes 45–90 minutes, and most patients go home the same day.

Follow-up

In the first 1 – 2 weeks it is normal to experience mild congestion, swelling, or blood-tinged discharge. You’ll receive guidance on pain relief, nasal care, and gradually returning to normal activities. You’ll attend a follow-up appointment at 2-3 weeks to help ensure smooth healing.

Septoplasty FAQs

What is Septoplasty?

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to straighten a deviated nasal septum (the wall of cartilage and bone dividing the nostrils), allowing you breathe more easily. It’s performed inside the nose under general anaesthetic, with no visible scars.

A deviated septum can cause chronic nasal obstruction, snoring, sinus infections, or difficulty breathing through one side of the nose. If medication hasn’t helped, septoplasty provides long-term relief.

No. You can self-refer directly to our ENT team for private treatment. A GP referral is optional if you already have test results.

A nasal endoscopy and, if needed, imaging such as a CT scan help your consultant plan surgery.

Most people go home the same day. Occasionally, an overnight stay is recommended if extra monitoring is required.

You’ll be asleep under general anaesthetic. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and managed with pain relief.

It is normal to experience mild swelling, congestion, and some nasal discharge for 1-2 weeks after surgery. Nasal packing or splints, if used, are usually removed within a few days.

Most people return to desk work or light duties in 7-10 days. More strenuous jobs may require up to two weeks.

Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, bending, and swimming for at least 2 weeks, or as advised by your surgeon.

You will need to arrange for someone to take you home after surgery. You can drive once the effects of the general anaesthetic have fully worn off, this usually is after 24-48 hours.
