Biography
Dr Tariq Ahmad is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Exeter. He qualified from the University of Bristol in 1992 and completed a doctorate (DPhil) at the University of Oxford in 2003, followed by higher specialist training in gastroenterology in 2005.
Dr Ahmad has extensive clinical experience of gastrointestinal conditions, with particular expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). He undertakes gastroscopy and colonoscopy and works closely with radiology, surgical and dietetic teams to ensure rapid, coordinated investigation and treatment for his patients.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Ahmad is a researcher in the field of inflammatory bowel disease. The Exeter IBD research team research focuses on early diagnosis, prediction of treatment-associated adverse drug reactions, and the optimising and monitoring of drug treatment. This work is currently funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
