Biography
Mr Michalis Panteli was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, Exeter, in 2022. His specialist expertise includes complex primary and revision arthroplasty, with a particular focus on hip reconstruction and replacement, as well as the management of a wide range of trauma conditions.
He graduated with honours in Medicine from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2008, before undertaking higher surgical training in Yorkshire, predominantly in Leeds. In 2021, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and went on to complete the prestigious post-CCT fellowship in complex and revision hip and knee arthroplasty in Exeter.
Alongside his clinical career, Mr Panteli has a strong academic background. In 2015, he was appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the University of Leeds, where he pursued research into bone healing and the biological processes underlying fracture non-union. He completed his PhD on the Molecular and biological profile of non-union tissue and, in 2019, became an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, continuing both laboratory and clinical research.
His academic interests encompass the basic science of bone healing, the sequelae of trauma, and advances in hip arthroplasty techniques. He is an active contributor to the orthopaedic research community, regularly presenting at international conferences and publishing extensively, with over 60 peer-reviewed articles in leading medical journals.
