Hand and Wrist Surgery FAQs
What hand and wrist problems can you treat?
We treat a broad range of conditions: nerve compression (e.g. carpal tunnel), tendon problems (trigger finger, De Quervain’s), joint arthritis, ganglions and cysts, tendon or ligament injuries, fractures, and degenerative or traumatic conditions requiring surgery.
Do I always need surgery?
Not always. Many hand and wrist complaints are first managed with non-surgical treatments — splints, physiotherapy, injections or therapy. Surgery is recommended if conservative management fails or if structural intervention is necessary for lasting improvement.
Is the surgery done as a day case?
Yes, the vast majority of hand and wrist surgery, whether minor or complex, is performed as a day-case. It is very rare for patients to require an overnight stay but this can be arranged if clinically indicated.
What happens after surgery?
After surgery you’ll receive aftercare including dressings, guidance on when and how to use your hand, hand therapy or physiotherapy, and follow-up appointments. Hand therapy is often essential to restore strength and mobility.
