What's included

One to one consultation

You’ll meet with one of our leading orthopaedic consultants to discuss your condition and treatment options. They will talk you through the procedure, discuss your x-rays and verify your diagnosis.

Surgery scheduling

Our private patients booking team will discuss available surgery dates with you and make a provisional booking.

Pre-assessment

Our experienced nursing team will carry out your pre-assessment for surgery. This might include heart scans, blood tests, extra scans or x-rays as required and a review with an anaesthetist to ensure that you are safe to proceed to surgery. The team will also help you get prepared and provide all of the information that you need.

Surgery

Your surgery will take place at the Nightingale Hospital Exeter or North Devon District Hospital. After a brief period of recovery, around 60% of patients are able to return home the same day although overnight care is included in the package.

Follow up and physiotherapy

At 2 weeks, a nurse will carry out checks to make sure that you are healing well and at 6 weeks you will have a follow up meeting with your surgeon and a physiotherapist. Your physiotherapist will provide a patient centred plan that supports your continued recovery, along with up to 3 physiotherapy appointments to support your progress and recovery.

Hip Replacement FAQs

What is a private total hip replacement in the UK?

A private total hip replacement is an orthopaedic procedure carried out by one of our consultant surgeons to replace a damaged or arthritic hip joint with an artificial implant.

Yes, we accept medical insurance from some providers. For more information check here. It is important to confirm your cover with your insurer, including whether diagnostic scans, surgeon’s fees, and rehabilitation are included.

Private hip replacement patients often undergo surgery within a few weeks of their initial consultation. Faster access means less pain, earlier mobility, and a quicker return to everyday life.

Private hip replacements are performed by our highly experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeons specialising in hip and joint replacement. Patients can usually choose their surgeon and benefit from continuity of care before, during, and after surgery.

Private patients in the UK have access to a wide range of high-quality hip implants, including ceramic, metal, and polyethylene combinations. Your consultant will recommend the most suitable implant based on your age, lifestyle, and activity level.

Most patients can walk with support within 24 hours of surgery. Full recovery usually takes 6–12 weeks, depending on individual progress and physiotherapy.

The main benefits include shorter waiting times, choice of consultant, personalised care, and access to advanced surgical options. Many patients also appreciate the flexibility of self-pay packages and insurance cover.

You can book a private hip replacement by contacting us directly or through a GP referral. Our dedicated private patient team will provide cost details, guide you through the booking process, and arrange your surgery.
